Prokofiev's "Athletic Festival March" has been named the champion of the 2017 Sousa's March Mania! The U.S. Marine Band prepared an NCAA-style bracket in which marches were pitted against each other in daily competitions until, ultimately, a champion was declared. The contest ran from March 4 through April 3. The 5th-grade music class, 6th-grade band, 7th- & 8th-grade band, and TCHS band voted for their favorite each school day until the contest concluded. The winning class, i.e., the class that selected the highest percentage of daily march "winners." was promised a prize. (Think chocolate chip cookies!) Voting was not limited to students, however. Anyone could vote by going to the website linked to the logo on the left. The winning class last year, the 7th- and 8th-grade band, enlisted friends and family in their crusade, and, of course, that was perfectly acceptable! As the results below indicate, competition remained tight up until the conclusion of the contest. Congratulations to the HS Band!
HS Band - 58%
6th-Grade Band - 53%
5th-Grade Music Class - 50%
7th- & 8th-Grade Band - 47%
In addition to the possibility of winning the class prize, individual music and band students also had the opportunity to win some "Sousa swag." To be eligible, students had to produce proof that one of their parents had placed an online vote during Sousa's March Mania themselves.
Isabel Miller is pictured at left with one of the most unusual sightings ever made in a high school band room! Thank you, Tuscola Music Boosters, for funding the purchase of a NEW baritone saxophone. It looks and sounds great!
